The
Health Co-op of Michigan simply has found a way to reduce
providers overhead while at the same time improving
patient quality and quantity of health care.
The end result is our participating doctors are keeping
60% of what they produce instead of the usual 20 to
40% i.e., "Project 60".

I don't know if you can relate to this statement but
here goes, "95% of primary care physicians in the
USA are in quiet desperation"
Years ago physicians were reimbursed on their merit
and services to patients. No middle man, insurance company,
quality control expert, preauthorization service, hospital
or other hurdle had to be overcome. We policed ourselves
and integrity and commitment to our profession was paramount.
Approx 92 cents of every dollar was spent directly
on the patient.
By the 1960's insurance companies became the norm.
Cash flow was predictable but more staff was needed
to take care of increasing paper work. This was the
beginning of sharing the medical authority and responsibility
with non-patient contact groups. This further increased
the bureaucracy and hassles of daily medical practice
to where we are today. Now approximately 68 cents
of every dollar spent on health care is directed to
the patient.
